GFS Countries - GUYANA

<< Back to Country List

It is noted in the World Council minutes that GFS was well established in British Guiana and a delegate from this country was first mentioned in 1962.  The country gained independence in 1966 and was then named Guyana.  The ongoing minutes show that Guyana was represented at most World Councils until 1987 with Miss Irma Chase being the delegate for a number of years leading up to that date.   There had been no contact with GFS members since that year until 2021.

The Girls Friendly Society was revived in 2021 under the guidance of  Mama Thembeka Pama,  Worldwide President of the Girls Friendly Society and Sister Sheran Harper,  Worldwide Mothers Union President.  The Diocesan President Sister Eleatrice Davenport encouraged Sister Trinette Cosbert to take up the mantle of leading the Girls Friendly  Society in Guyana.  She was delighted and prays for God’s Blessings while working in this path of God’s vineyard.   An official relaunch of GFS was conducted at St George's Cathedral, 13 November 2021.
